Recipes: Beehive Wellness Shots

In this time of quarantine and global pandemic, the world outside is chaotic and  uncertain. Most of us are in our homes, and only going out for necessary items. It is a stressful time, both for the world and for us as individuals.

One thing is certain - we are all thinking a lot about health. While we cannot magically help the health of the world's population, we can work on improving our own health and immunity. Beehive Boutique and Spa would like to share some recipes from our recent #BeehiveWellnessTalks, "Wellness Shots for Body & Mind".

Beehive Wellness Shots

Like fancy juices or supplements, health-boosting power shots deliver a quick dose of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals — but in a more concentrated dose.

Best taken within ½ hour of making, you can prepare these wellness shots in a juicer ahead of time, and store them in a pitcher in the fridge. So all you need to do for a quick boost is take a quick shot. Think of these mini elixirs as a multivitamin of sorts (just remember, they’re not meant to be a meal replacement).

Wellness shots complement a well-rounded and balanced diet, rather than make up for a severely skewed diet. Mix up a batch for gut health, an energy boost or a hit of immunity. Who knew that shooting one back would be so good for you?

Pineapple Turmeric - Gut Shot

Sweet, spicy, and everything anti-inflammatory.. Blending together bromelain-rich pineapple, lemon, ginger, turmeric, and a kick of cayenne, this wellness shot works to reduce inflammation and bloating, support digestion and detoxification, and strengthen your immune system. It’s the perfect post-workout remedy, and the detox solution for your cold, flu, and hangover woes.

Apple Cider Vinegar - A 2007 study found that a daily dose of at least 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar could lower the blood sugar of people with diabetes. And according to a 2009 study, downing a little vinegar each day may help with weight loss and lower triglyceride levels.

Ginger - Good for pain, anti-nausea and warming effects. The component Zingerone in Ginger is good for cold or flu. Also shown that phytochemical in ginger kills cancer cells.

Pineapple - Pineapples contain a group of digestive enzymes called bromelain; these enzymes are proteases, which break down protein into its building blocks, including amino acids. This aids the digestion and absorption of proteins.

Turmeric - Contains compounds are called curcuminoids, the most important of which is curcumin. Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant. It can be difficult for your body to absorb on its own; mixing turmeric with black pepper (which contains piperine) enhances the absorption of curcumin by 2,000%. Curcumin is also fat soluble, and an oil, such as olive oil, can also aid in absorption.
